SOLD 1927 - 35' 6 Metre Racing Sloop "MERENNEITO" SOLD

SOLD

Mahogany planking on white oak frames. Original varnished sitka spruce spars. Original bronze hardware. Comes complete with rigging, sails and new cradle. This finely built Finnish yacht was runner up in the 1927 Scandinavian gold cup race and was sailed to victory in the 1928 and 1929 Prince of Wales cup races. "MERENNEITO" was purchased by Commodore George H. Gooderham of Toronto's R.C.Y.C. and became the first 6 Metre racing yacht in Canada.

Although "Merenneito" has fallen into the hands of neglect over the past quarter century, her hull remains straight, resting in her new wooden cradle, with no signs of twisting or hogging.

This once magnificent vessel requires a major restoration and refinishing to bring her back to pristine condition, and this will be performed by the master craftsmen of Woodwind Yachts.

As dismantling of the vessel has not yet been started, it is impossible to know at this point exactly how much work will be required. After thorough inspection, however, I have determined that between 2500 and 3300 hours will be required to properly complete this project. Combined with the required materials, the finished costs will be in excess of $100,000.00.

"Merenneito" will not be offered for sale in "as is" condition.SOLD
